SAMBHAL, INDIA – A 40-year-old abandoned temple has been unearthed during a controversial bulldozer demolition drive near the Shahi Masjid in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. Police, conducting the drive purportedly to remove illegal encroachments, discovered the temple, which had been closed since 1978, on Wednesday.
The temple, containing idols of Shiva and Hanuman, was found in a dilapidated condition along with a disused well. Sambhal Circle Officer Anuj Kumar Chaudhary stated that the temple will be cleaned and reopened for worshippers. The ongoing demolition drive has sparked controversy, with critics alleging misuse of power.
