Mon Dec 16 14:55:37 UTC 2024: ## Kottayam Twin Murder Case Verdict Due Thursday
**KOTTAYAM, December 16, 2024** – The Additional Sessions Court II in Kottayam will deliver its verdict on Thursday, December 19, in the high-profile Kanjirappally twin murder case. George Kurian, 52, stands accused of murdering his brother, Renju Kurian, and maternal uncle, Mathew Scaria, on March 6, 2022, allegedly due to a property dispute.
The prosecution claims Kurian, armed with a licensed foreign-made revolver, fatally shot both victims at their Karimbanal family home. Renju Kurian died at the scene, while Mathew Scaria succumbed to his injuries at the Government Medical College Hospital, Kottayam. The brutal nature of the crime attracted widespread media attention.
The trial, which began on April 24, 2023, involved 76 prosecution witnesses, 278 documents, and 75 material objects as evidence. Despite several family members turning hostile during the proceedings, eyewitness testimony and expert analysis from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (including ballistic, DNA, and cyber experts) reportedly supported the prosecution’s case.
The prosecution team consisted of advocates C.S. Ajayan, Nibu John, and Swathy S. Sivan, while advocate B. Shivadas represented the accused. The court’s decision is highly anticipated.
