Mon Dec 16 08:30:00 UTC 2024: ## Telangana Assembly Session Extended, but Walkout Follows
**Hyderabad, December 16, 2024** – The Telangana Assembly session will continue for another five days, concluding on December 21st, following a decision by the Business Advisory Committee (BAC). However, the meeting ended in controversy with the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) staging a walkout.
The walkout, according to BRS sources, stemmed from a lack of clarity regarding the session’s agenda and the number of working days. A heated debate also erupted within the BAC over the dress code, with BRS members questioning restrictions on wearing T-shirts. Former minister Harish Rao reportedly questioned the restrictions, referencing Rahul Gandhi’s appearances in Parliament wearing T-shirts.
Minister Shridhar Babu criticized the BRS and AIMIM’s walkout, asserting that the BAC has historically accommodated diverse viewpoints and that the decision on the session’s duration rests with the Speaker. He expressed his anger at what he called the disrespectful actions of the BRS and AIMIM towards the Speaker. Rao also expressed displeasure with the BAC proceedings, claiming they lacked transparency regarding the number of sitting days and the agenda. He stated that the BRS had requested a 15-day session with daily zero hour debates, but their pleas were ignored.
The extension of the Assembly session comes amidst ongoing political discussions within the state. The disagreements within the BAC highlight the tension between the ruling party and the opposition.
