**Bengaluru, December 15, 2024** – Mumbai clinched the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024 title after a thrilling final victory over Madhya Pradesh at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The tournament, which began on November 23rd and featured 38 teams, concluded its 135th and final match today.

Madhya Pradesh, batting first, posted a challenging 174/8 in their 20 overs, with captain Rajat Patidar leading the charge with an unbeaten 81 off 40 balls. Mumbai’s bowlers, however, kept a tight rein, with Shardul Thakur and Royston Dias taking two wickets each. Shivam Dube’s economical spell (4-0-27-1) also proved crucial, restricting MP’s scoring.

In response, Mumbai chased down the target with ease, reaching 180/5 in 17.5 overs. Suryakumar Yadav played a pivotal role, smashing 48 runs off 35 balls, while Suryansh Shejwal contributed a quickfire 36 off just 15 balls. Ajinkya Rahane, who also led Mumbai to victory in the 2022/23 season, once again steered his team to success.

Mumbai’s dominant performance throughout the tournament saw them win eight of their nine matches, losing only to Kerala in the group stage. This is their second SMAT title, having previously won in the 2006/07 season.
