Mon Dec 16 16:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Friendly Fire Kills Eight Russian Soldiers Amidst Ukraine Conflict

**KYIV, Ukraine** – A communication breakdown between Russian and North Korean troops fighting in Ukraine led to the accidental deaths of eight Russian soldiers, according to Ukrainian intelligence. The incident involved friendly fire from North Korean forces, who are reportedly assisting Russian troops in the Kursk Oblast.

The Defense Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU) stated that approximately 11,000 North Korean personnel are currently deployed in Russia and are being used in assault operations alongside Russian marines and airborne troops. The DIU claims that a language barrier contributed to the tragic incident, where North Korean soldiers mistakenly opened fire on vehicles belonging to the Akhmat special forces unit, a Chechen paramilitary group.

This incident follows a massive Russian missile and drone attack on Ukraine’s power grid on Friday, which involved nearly 100 missiles and 200 drones, targeting Western Ukraine. The attacks, carried out amidst freezing conditions, aimed to further devastate Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. The DIU also reported that North Korean troops have suffered casualties from Ukrainian counterattacks, including a successful strike using FPV drones.

The involvement of North Korean troops in the conflict continues to escalate tensions in the region. The situation underscores the complex and increasingly international nature of the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war.
