Mon Dec 16 09:57:26 UTC 2024: ## Williamson Breaks Records with 33rd Test Century
**Hamilton, New Zealand:** Kane Williamson etched his name into cricketing history during the third Test match against England, smashing his 33rd Test century. This achievement wasn’t just another milestone; it saw him surpass Kumar Sangakkara, Younus Khan, and Steve Smith for the fastest to reach 33 Test centuries. Williamson reached this landmark in his 186th innings, quicker than Sangakkara and Smith (both 199 innings) and Younus Khan (194 innings). While Ricky Ponting holds the overall record (178 innings), Williamson’s feat is still remarkable.
This century is also Williamson’s 11th in World Test Championship history and his 20th at home in New Zealand. Remarkably, it was his seventh century at Hamilton’s Seddon Park, making him only second to Mahela Jayawardene (11 centuries at Colombo) for most centuries at a single venue. Even more impressively, this was Williamson’s fifth consecutive Test century at the ground, a feat never before accomplished in the history of the game. This remarkable streak began in 2019 with an unbeaten 200 against Bangladesh, followed by an unbeaten 104 against England, an unbeaten 251 against the West Indies, and an unbeaten 133 against South Africa. His latest effort, a 156 against England, continues the incredible run.
New Zealand posted a total of 453 runs in their second innings, setting England a challenging 658 runs to win.
