Mon Dec 16 17:31:14 UTC 2024: ## FIR in Sambhal Mosque Violence Case Transferred
**Lucknow, December 12, 2024** – The First Information Report (FIR) filed regarding the November 24 violence at the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, has been transferred from Moradabad to Sambhal. The FIR, based on a complaint by Naseem, alleges that members of the Turk community opened fire and threw stones during a court-ordered survey of the mosque. Naseem’s nephew, Waseem, was injured by gunfire and underwent surgery. The case is registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The violence, which resulted in five deaths and numerous injuries, followed a local court order to survey the 500-year-old mosque. Tensions have been high in Sambhal since November 19, with Hindu petitioners claiming the mosque was built on the site of a demolished Hindu temple. The Supreme Court has since halted proceedings and the survey. Uttar Pradesh police deny firing upon protesters.
