Mon Dec 16 16:10:21 UTC 2024: ## Delhi Imposes Strict Pollution Control Measures Under Graded Response Action Plan
**New Delhi:** With Delhi’s air quality deteriorating to severe levels, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has implemented Stage 3 restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). These measures, effective immediately, include a ban on private construction and demolition activities.
The restrictions significantly impact vehicular traffic. Entry into Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Noida, and Ghaziabad is banned for petrol vehicles that don’t meet BS-III emission standards and diesel vehicles not meeting BS-IV standards. This includes a complete ban on BS-III and below diesel-powered medium goods vehicles registered in Delhi and a ban on entry of BS-IV and below diesel-powered light commercial vehicles (LCVs) registered outside Delhi. Only electric vehicles (EVs), CNG vehicles, and BS-VI diesel buses from NCR states will be permitted entry.
Exceptions are made for vehicles providing essential goods and services, and those used by people with disabilities. The CAQM notification clarifies that these exemptions apply to the ban on BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel cars across the five affected districts.
The aim of these restrictions is to curb emissions from older diesel vehicles, which are major contributors to Delhi’s worsening air pollution. The CAQM hopes these stringent measures will improve air quality in the National Capital Region (NCR).
