**KYIV/MOSCOW, December 15** – The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine witnessed a significant escalation in drone warfare overnight, resulting in casualties and damage on both sides. Ukrainian forces reported shooting down 58 out of 132 incoming Russian drones, with a further 72 disabled by electronic warfare. While initial reports indicated no damage from the intercepted drones, the situation in Russia paints a different picture.

A nine-year-old child was killed and two others injured, including another child, in a Ukrainian drone attack on the Belgorod region, according to regional Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov. Russia also reported intercepting 15 Ukrainian drones, 13 over the Black Sea and one each over Kursk and Belgorod.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s military claimed responsibility for a drone strike on the Steel Horse oil facility in Russia’s Oryol region, a key supplier of fuel for Russian forces. Oryol regional governor Andrei Klychkov confirmed a drone attack on a fuel infrastructure facility, resulting in a fire, and reported shooting down 11 drones. No casualties were reported in Oryol.

The renewed wave of cross-border drone attacks marks a significant escalation in the conflict, highlighting the continued use of unmanned aerial vehicles as a key element of the ongoing war. The incident in Belgorod, resulting in a child’s death, underscores the increasingly devastating human cost of the conflict spilling over into civilian areas.
