Sat Dec 14 17:40:00 UTC 2024: ## Real Madrid Injured Stars to Receive Intercontinental Cup Medal Regardless of Participation

**DOHA, QATAR** – Real Madrid has announced that all first-team players, including those sidelined with long-term injuries, will receive a winner’s medal should they triumph in the Intercontinental Cup final next week. Dani Carvajal, Éder Militão, and David Alaba, all currently recovering from injuries, have been registered for the tournament despite their inability to play. This gesture, according to the club, recognizes their contributions to the team’s success in reaching the final.

While their participation on the pitch is impossible, Carvajal and Militão may still travel to Qatar to support their teammates, demonstrating team unity and leadership. Alaba’s return is anticipated next month.

Real Madrid automatically qualified for the final, scheduled for December 18th at the Lusail Stadium in Doha. They will face either Mexican side Pachuca or Egyptian club Al Ahly, the winners of Match 4. This marks a rematch opportunity against Al Ahly, whom Real Madrid defeated 4-1 in the 2022 Club World Cup semi-final.

The Intercontinental Cup, a revival of the former Club World Cup, holds special significance for Real Madrid, who previously won the competition in 1960, 1998, and 2002. Before departing for Qatar, Carlo Ancelotti’s team will face Rayo Vallecano in a La Liga match. Currently, Real Madrid sits second in the league standings, trailing Barcelona by two points. The final will be broadcast in the US on Fox Sports.
