Sat Dec 14 05:06:01 UTC 2024: ## India Demands Investigation into Killing of Three Indian Students in Canada

**New Delhi, December 14, 2024** – India has strongly condemned the murders of three Indian students in Canada, demanding a thorough investigation and raising concerns about the safety of its nationals in the country. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal described the killings as “terrible tragedies,” expressing condolences to the victims’ families and confirming that Indian missions in Canada are providing consular assistance.

The statement comes amidst already strained relations between India and Canada. Jaiswal noted that the Indian High Commission regularly raises concerns about the safety of Indian students with Canadian authorities, and recently issued an advisory urging caution due to a rise in hate crimes and violence. Over 400,000 Indian students currently study in Canada.

Tensions escalated in October following accusations by Canada linking Indian diplomats to the murder of Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India vehemently denied these allegations, leading to the expulsion of diplomats from both countries. Jaiswal dismissed recent Canadian media reports alleging visa denials by the Indian High Commission as a disinformation campaign aimed at maligning India. He asserted India’s sovereign right to deny visas to individuals deemed a threat to its territorial integrity.
