Fri Dec 13 06:51:13 UTC 2024: ## Canadian Biologist Brings “Plant Music” to India

**ANGAMALY, INDIA – December 13, 2024** – Tarun Nayar, a Canadian biologist and musician, captivated audiences at Nisarga Art Hub in Angamaly with his unique performances featuring the sounds of plants and mushrooms. Nayar, who has been touring India, creates music by translating the bioelectric activity of flora and fungi into musical soundscapes using custom-built analog synthesizers.

His method involves connecting plants and mushrooms to sensors, similar to a lie detector, to capture their electrical impulses. These impulses are then processed and interpreted musically, resulting in impromptu performances that vary depending on the location and its natural environment.

Nayar, who has a background in Indian classical music and tabla, developed this project, “Modern Biology,” during the pandemic. He has since released an album featuring sounds from various plants, including hemlocks, blackberries, and even a pineapple. His work has garnered international attention, with his social media posts showcasing his unique musical experiments.

During his recent India tour, Nayar performed with a giant ficus tree, showcasing his ability to connect with the natural world and its diverse musical potential. He hopes his work will encourage others to reconnect with nature. Nayar’s collaborations extend to popular artists, including Diljit Dosanjh, showcasing the diverse reach of his innovative approach to music.
