**Hyderabad, Dec 12, 2024** – Tollywood actor Allu Arjun was arrested earlier today in connection with a stampede at a Hyderabad theater during the premiere of his film *Pushpa 2*. A woman died and her son was injured in the incident on December 4th. Arjun is charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder, among other offenses. His lawyer, Senior Advocate S. Niranjan Reddy, immediately filed a petition in the Telangana High Court seeking interim bail.
Reddy argued that the charges against Arjun are excessive, citing the lack of direct connection between the actor’s presence and the stampede deaths. He drew parallels to the case of Shahrukh Khan, who faced similar charges after a stampede during a film promotion event but was later acquitted. The prosecution contends that Arjun’s presence, without prior notification to authorities, contributed to the crowd surge leading to the stampede. They allege that Arjun was aware of the potential for an untoward incident. However, the court questioned the evidence supporting this claim, demanding written proof that Arjun was explicitly warned against attending the premiere.
The court also heard arguments from lawyers representing the theater management, who denied negligence and sought to quash the charges against them. They presented documentation showing police acknowledgment of the screening and argued that the cause of death was suffocation, not direct actions by the accused.
The High Court, presided over by Justice Juvvadi Sridevi, adjourned the hearing to Monday, allowing time for both sides to submit additional documentation. The court will then consider whether to grant Allu Arjun interim bail.
