**Hyderabad, India –** Popular Telugu actor Allu Arjun was arrested Friday in connection with a stampede at the premiere of his film, *Pushpa 2*, that resulted in one death and injuries. The incident occurred at the Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad on December 4th, claiming the life of a 39-year-old woman, Revathi, and leaving her son critically injured.
Arjun, apprehended at his residence, was seen wearing a hoodie with the film’s popular tagline, “Flower nahi, fire hai mein.” He was subsequently charged under sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 118(1) (punishment for causing hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with his security team and theatre management. The charges stem from a complaint filed by Revathi’s husband, who alleges his wife was suffocated by the surging crowd and the actions of Arjun’s security personnel.
The stampede was triggered by an overwhelming number of fans eager to see Arjun and co-star Rashmika Mandhana. Reports indicate inadequate crowd control measures at the theatre, including a lack of designated entry and exit points, contributed to the tragedy. The theatre gates reportedly collapsed under the pressure of the crowd.
Following the incident, Arjun expressed his sorrow, offering condolences and financial assistance to the victim’s family, pledging Rs 25 lakh and covering medical expenses for the injured son. However, this has not prevented his arrest.
BRS leader KT Rama Rao has weighed in, stating Arjun should not be treated as a criminal and suggesting another individual, Revanth Reddy, should face charges instead.
Arjun’s legal team has reportedly sought relief from the Telangana High Court to challenge the FIR. The hearing is yet to be scheduled. The actor is expected to undergo a medical check-up at Osmania Hospital following his statement to police. The investigation continues.
