Thu Dec 12 19:02:01 UTC 2024: ## Karnataka Protest Demands Action Against Out-of-State Police Arrests
**Bengaluru, December 13, 2024** – A delegation of lawyers, students, and activists protested outside the Karnataka State Police headquarters yesterday, demanding action against out-of-state police forces allegedly flouting procedures during arrests within the state. The protest specifically targeted instances of alleged intimidation and harassment of human rights activists.
The memorandum submitted to the State police chief cited the cases of civil rights activist Nadeem Khan and fact-checker Mohammed Zubair, both recently subjected to FIRs. The delegation accused Delhi and Uttar Pradesh police of a targeted “witch-hunt” against human rights activists, alleging the use of criminal investigations to silence dissent and create a climate of fear.
The memorandum highlighted the alleged illegal detention of Disha Ravi by Delhi Police in Bengaluru as a precedent, emphasizing the violation of federal principles and jurisdictional boundaries. The protestors asserted that Karnataka Police should not participate in such “lawless behavior.” The delegation called for an end to the alleged intimidation tactics and misuse of power by out-of-state law enforcement agencies operating within Karnataka.
