BHUBANESWAR, Dec 5 (Summa Real Media) – Bhubaneswar is set to host the Odisha Open and 15th International Grandmasters Chess Festival from December 15th. The eight-day tournament, boasting a total prize purse of Rs 40 lakh, will attract approximately 700 participants from 25 countries, including title holders from Belarus, Bosnia, Columbia, Egypt, France, Kazakhstan, Paraguay, Philippines, Russia, Slovakia, USA, Vietnam and India.
The competition will be divided into three categories based on Elo ratings, with Category A (1900+ Elo) offering Rs 25 lakh in prize money, including a top prize of Rs 5.5 lakh. Categories B and C will each have a prize pool of Rs 7.5 lakh. The tournament is being organized by the All Odisha Chess Association (AOCA) in association with Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan Deemed to be University (SOA), Rotary International and Empreo Group.
