**NEW YORK** – Stanley, the popular drinkware company, has issued a recall for 2.6 million of its Switchback and Trigger Action stainless steel travel mugs due to a safety hazard. The recall affects 12 oz., 16 oz., and 20 oz. mugs sold between $20 and $50 at retailers including Amazon, Walmart, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Target.

The company reports that the mugs’ lids can detach when exposed to hot liquids due to a problem with the lid threads. This has resulted in 91 reported incidents worldwide, including 38 burn injuries, 11 of which required medical attention. Sixteen reports and two injuries originated in the U.S.

The recalled mugs have one of the following product identification numbers printed on the bottom: 20-01437, 20-01436, 20-02211, 20-02033, 20-02779, 20-02825, 20-02030, 20-02745, 20-02957, 20-02034, or 20-02746. Consumers with affected mugs can contact Stanley for a free replacement lid.

The recall comes as Stanley enjoys a surge in popularity, particularly among Gen Z and Millennial women, boosted by viral trends on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram. This increased demand has significantly driven the company’s revenue growth in recent years.
