Thu Dec 12 18:21:40 UTC 2024: ## Iran Adapts Strategy After Assad’s Ouster in Syria

**Tehran, Syria –** Following the weekend ouster of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) commander Hossein Salami announced a shift in the country’s Syria strategy, acknowledging the need to adapt to the “new realities.” State media reported Salami’s statement, in which he emphasized the need for flexible tactics in response to the rapidly changing situation. Iran had been a staunch ally of the Assad regime, providing significant military and political support throughout the Syrian civil war. Assad’s removal leaves a power vacuum and significantly alters the regional balance of power, particularly within Iran’s “axis of resistance,” which also includes Hezbollah, Hamas, and Huthi rebels.

The IRGC also condemned what it called the exploitation of the instability in Syria by the United States and Israel, vowing to counter any efforts to weaken regional powers. The statement underscored Iran’s continued commitment to its regional alliances despite the recent developments. Turkey and Israel maintain military presences in Syria, while US troops continue to operate there in conjunction with Kurdish forces. The situation remains tense and volatile, with potential for further conflict and realignment of regional alliances.
