**New Delhi, December 13, 2024** – India desires amicable relations with Pakistan, but these must be free from terrorism, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar stated in the Lok Sabha today. He emphasized that improved bilateral ties depend on Pakistan demonstrating a change in its past behaviour regarding terrorism. Failure to do so, he warned, will have consequences for the relationship.

Mr. Jaishankar also attributed the disruption of trade relations to decisions made by Pakistan in 2019, a reference to the aftermath of the Indian government’s revocation of Article 370. He clarified that India’s stance on the matter remains consistent, placing the onus on Pakistan to alter its actions. The minister’s comments came during Question Hour on Day 15 of the Parliament’s Winter Session.
