**Chennai, India** – D. Gukesh has etched his name in chess history, becoming the youngest-ever world champion after defeating Ding Liren of China in the finals of the 18th World Chess Championship. At just 17 years old, Gukesh surpasses the previous record held by Garry Kasparov, who won the title at age 22.

Prior to this momentous victory, Gukesh was ranked fifth in the world. His win is a testament to his exceptional talent and dedication. Gukesh credits his success to his parents, Dr. Rajnikanth, an ENT specialist, and Dr. Padma, a microbiologist, who have been unwavering in their support. His father even quit his job to accompany him to tournaments.

Gukesh honed his skills from the age of seven, under the tutelage of his school coach, Bhaskar, at Velammal Vidhyalaya, Mel Ayannambakam in Chennai – a school known for producing chess grandmasters. Within just six months of training, he achieved a FIDE rating, demonstrating his prodigious talent. This latest triumph further solidifies India’s prominent position in the world of chess.
