**PANAJI, GOA** – A 29-year-old dental surgeon, Dr. Mithun Kudalkar, died of a massive heart attack on Sunday, hours after completing the Goa River Marathon, his father confirmed. Dr. Kudalkar, a resident of Vasco city, was a seasoned marathon runner, having participated in numerous races across cities including Mangaluru.
According to his father, Dr. Dynaneshwar Kudalkar, a former chief medical officer, Mithun felt unwell after finishing the 21-mile half-marathon. Though initially examined by medical personnel at the event for acidity and shoulder pain, he appeared to recover. However, he collapsed and died at home around 1 p.m. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.
A friend who also participated in the marathon reported that Dr. Kudalkar appeared healthy at the finish line. The family noted that both his elder son and daughter-in-law are also doctors. The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the potential health risks associated with strenuous physical activity.
