Fri Dec 13 12:04:00 UTC 2024: ## Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Delivers Powerful Maiden Lok Sabha Speech, Attacks BJP

**New Delhi, India** – Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress MP, made a strong debut in the Lok Sabha on Friday, delivering a fiery speech that targeted the ruling BJP on multiple fronts during the first day of a crucial debate on the Constitution. Her speech, met with both cheers and jeers, highlighted concerns about communal violence, the misuse of federal agencies, and the need for a caste census.

Gandhi Vadra began by recounting the tragic death of a tailor in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, whose sons witnessed their father’s killing by police. She used this example to underscore the Constitution’s role as a “security blanket” for citizens, arguing that the BJP government’s actions have undermined this protection. She directly challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that the Constitution is “Bharat ka Samvidhan” (India’s Constitution), not “Sangh ka Vidhan” (the Sangh’s constitution), referencing the RSS, the BJP’s ideological mentor.

The Congress MP further accused the BJP of using federal agencies to suppress political rivals, a claim frequently made by the opposition, and criticized the government’s reluctance to conduct a caste census, deeming it essential for effective policymaking. She dismissed the BJP’s counterarguments, which she said included trivializing the issue by referencing Prime Minister Modi’s previous comments about the Congress allegedly stealing people’s wealth.

Gandhi Vadra’s speech was praised by her brother and Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, who described it as “better than my maiden speech.” Her forceful debut marks a significant contribution to the opposition’s challenge to the BJP’s rule.
