Fri Dec 13 12:20:00 UTC 2024: ## Chimpanzee Robbie Williams Steals the Show (and the Spotlight) in Unexpected Biopic

**London, UK** – A new Robbie Williams biopic, “Better Man,” is generating buzz not for its faithfulness to the singer’s life, but for its unconventional approach: Williams is portrayed as a chimpanzee. The film, directed by Michael Gracey, features Jonno Davies as the primate Robbie, navigating the highs and lows of fame, from Take That’s early success to his solo career struggles.

Human actors portray the other key figures in Williams’ life, including his family and former girlfriend Nicole Appleton. The film covers familiar ground – the insecurities, the substance abuse, the tumultuous relationships – but the chimpanzee central character adds a unique visual layer.

While the initial concept is intriguing, critics suggest the novelty wears off halfway through. The metaphor of the pop star as a zoo animal, while explored by other artists, doesn’t always translate effectively, particularly in more serious scenes. The film’s reliance on traditional biopic storytelling and familiar musical sequences also hinder its impact.

Despite the unconventional casting, the film remains undeniably a Robbie Williams project, with the singer himself narrating and the climax focusing on his 2001 Royal Albert Hall concert. While the visual effects are praised for making the chimpanzee character believable, the overall result feels somewhat predictable despite its unique premise.

“Better Man” arrives in cinemas on December 26th.
