BENGALURU, INDIA – A team of Bengaluru police officers has travelled to Uttar Pradesh to investigate the alleged abetment of suicide of 34-year-old Atul Subhash. Subhash was found dead in his apartment on Monday, prompting his brother to file a complaint against his estranged wife, Nikita Singhania, and several of her family members.

The accused are alleged to have demanded ₹3 crore (approximately $365,000 USD) from Subhash to withdraw existing cases against him and a further ₹30 lakh (approximately $36,500 USD) for visitation rights to his son. The Marathahalli police have booked the accused under charges of abetment to suicide.

Reports indicate that Nikita’s mother and brother fled their Jaunpur home late Wednesday, with social media videos appearing to corroborate this. While the Jaunpur police have yet to receive an official request from Bengaluru police, a statement from the accused’s lawyer claims Nikita had filed a maintenance case against Subhash and calls for a thorough investigation. Meanwhile, Sushil Singhania, Nikita’s uncle and also named as an accused, denies involvement.

The investigation is ongoing, with Bengaluru police confirming the deployment of an officer to Uttar Pradesh to determine the next steps in apprehending the suspects. The complicated case involves a prior FIR filed by Nikita against Subhash and his family in 2022, alleging dowry harassment. The conflicting accusations and cross-complaints are expected to be a key focus of the investigation.
