CHENNAI, December 13, 2024 – Aavin, the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation, is launching a new fortified variant of its popular Green Magic milk. The new “Green Magic Plus” will contain 4.5% fat, increased protein, and added vitamins A and D, addressing micronutrient deficiencies identified in recent studies across both urban and rural populations.
The initiative, currently a trial run, will initially be rolled out by Aavin unions in Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Coimbatore, and Salem districts. Aavin Managing Director S. Vineeth stated that the aim is to expand to underserved areas. Green Magic Plus boasts 9% solids non-fat (SNF), 170 milligrams of calcium, 27 mcg of vitamin A, and 0.5 mcg of vitamin D per 100 ml. The regular Green Magic milk, consumed at a rate of 5 lakh litres daily in Chennai alone, will remain unchanged. Aavin’s total daily milk supply stands at 31.5 lakh litres.
A retired Aavin official welcomed the move, describing it as a long-awaited development and urging its expansion across the state. The introduction of Green Magic Plus signifies Aavin’s commitment to providing healthier milk options for consumers.
