Fri Dec 13 02:24:23 UTC 2024: **Delhi LG Orders Strict Implementation of Tobacco-Free Guidelines in Schools and Colleges**
NEW DELHI: Following the launch of his anti-drug abuse campaign on December 1st, Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) V.K. Saxena has directed the strict implementation of tobacco-free guidelines in all schools and colleges across Delhi. According to a press statement issued by the LG’s office on Wednesday, nodal officers will be appointed in each educational institution to monitor compliance.
The directive comes after the 9th review meeting of the state-level committee Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD). The LG instructed the Directorate of Education and the Department of Higher Education to ensure strict adherence to the guidelines for tobacco-free educational institutions.
Each institution will appoint a nodal officer, whose name and contact details will be prominently displayed. These officers will play a crucial role in overseeing compliance with the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003, and addressing drug abuse concerns, the LG emphasized.
The LG also highlighted the need for increased awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco, tobacco cessation programs, and counseling and support services for students and staff. Concerns raised by the Special Commissioner of Police (ANTF) regarding the lack of adequate counseling and guidance facilities for students and parents regarding drug abuse were also addressed.
LG Saxena aims to create a healthy and safe learning environment, promote student well-being, and discourage harmful habits through these comprehensive measures.
