**NEW DELHI** – The death of renowned fashion designer Rohit Bal has sparked a dispute over his will, with conflicting claims emerging regarding the distribution of his assets. Lalit Tehlan, a close friend and former model, claims possession of a will that bequeaths a significant portion of Bal’s estate, including a major stake in Rohit Bal Designs Pvt Ltd., to him. This claim is contested by Bal’s brother, Rajiv Bal, who asserts that the family also possesses a valid will.
Tehlan reportedly stated that Bal owned 99% of Rohit Bal Designs Pvt Ltd., with only 1% belonging to Rajiv Bal. He claims the will grants him a substantial share of the company’s assets, along with Bal’s personal property, including his house and bank accounts. Tehlan also revealed that Bal generously provided for his long-term employees, such as his cook and driver.
Rajiv Bal, however, has challenged Tehlan’s claim, stating that he and his family are unaware of the will Tehlan possesses and that the family has its own will. He indicated he would not comment further until he reviews the document presented by Tehlan.
Sunil Sethi, Chairman of the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), has been appointed as the executor of the will, adding another layer of complexity to the situation.
The late designer, who passed away on November 1st at the age of 63 after a heart ailment, was a founding member of the FDCI and celebrated for his innovative designs. His last show at Lakme Fashion Week featured Bollywood actress Ananya Panday. The FDCI mourned his passing, highlighting his significant contributions to Indian fashion. The legal battle over his will is now set to determine the final disposition of his considerable legacy.
