Wed Dec 11 12:54:21 UTC 2024: ## Techie’s Suicide Note Blames Estranged Wife, Family for Extortion, Leads to Abetment Charges

**Bengaluru, India** – A 34-year-old techie, Atul Subhash, died by suicide on Monday, leaving behind a 24-page note detailing allegations of extortion and harassment by his estranged wife and her family. Police have registered an abetment to suicide case against Nikita Singhania, his wife; her mother, Nisha Singhania; brother-in-law, Anurag Singhania; and her uncle, Sushil Singhania.

Subhash’s note, addressed partly to his four-year-old son, reveals a bitter custody battle and accusations of financial exploitation. He claimed his wife demanded escalating sums of money, starting with a court-ordered maintenance of ₹80,000 per month, which she allegedly sought to increase to ₹200,000. Furthermore, his brother, Bikas Kumar, alleges that Nikita demanded ₹30 lakh to allow Atul to see his son, whom he hadn’t seen since the couple separated in 2021.

The note contains controversial statements criticizing women’s empowerment movements and expressing resentment towards the legal system. Subhash wrote that he felt his son was being used as a tool to extort money and that the legal process only enabled the harassment. He stated his belief that the system prioritized his harassers over him and his family.

In an 81-minute video also left behind, Subhash detailed his marriage in 2019 and the subsequent deterioration of his relationship. He described repeated demands for large sums of money from his wife’s family. Police confirmed that the allegations of extortion and harassment were the basis for the FIR filed against the four accused. The investigation is ongoing. The suicide has sparked debate about the challenges faced by alienated fathers and the potential for misuse of family law.
