Wed Dec 11 15:56:54 UTC 2024: ## Hyderabad Firm Launches Compostable Bioplastics, Partnering with CSIR-IICT
**Hyderabad, December 12, 2024** – A Hyderabad-based company, Greenworksbio Products (GBPL), has launched 19 compostable bioplastic products developed in collaboration with the CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR-IICT). The launch, which included the participation of Union Minister Jitendra Singh, marks a significant step towards reducing single-use plastic pollution in India.
The bioplastics, made from Nanocellulose Engineered Starch-based granules, are a sustainable alternative to conventional synthetic plastics. Developed using green chemistry principles and certified by CIPET, they offer several advantages including high load-bearing capacity, reduced plastic consumption, and antimicrobial properties. The technology transfer from CSIR-IICT to GBPL aligns with the Indian government’s ban on certain single-use plastics.
CSIR-IICT Director D. Srinivas Reddy highlighted the innovative nature of the technology, developed by a team led by Vineet Aniya. Minister Singh emphasized the crucial role of industry-academic partnerships in tackling plastic pollution and achieving India’s sustainability goals.
Furthering their commitment to eco-friendly solutions, CSIR-IICT and GBPL have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore the production of biodegradable polymer PBAT using recycled PET plastic from water bottles. This collaboration aims to accelerate the transition to a sustainable future and contribute to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. The initiative showcases a successful synergy between research, industry, and government policy in addressing environmental concerns.
