During a warm meeting, PM Modi reminisced about Raj Kapoor’s enduring impact on Indian cinema, recalling a story of how veteran leaders L.K. Advani and Atal Bihari Vajpayee watched “Phir Subah Hogi” after a political setback. He also shared a fond memory of sending Rishi Kapoor a recording of one of his songs playing in China. The Prime Minister praised Raj Kapoor’s pioneering role in establishing India’s global cinematic influence, predating the modern concept of “soft power.”
Ranbir Kapoor shared an anecdote about being recognized as Raj Kapoor’s grandson by a Russian taxi driver, highlighting the actor’s continuing global appeal.
