**COIMBATORE, TAMIL NADU –** Era Mohan, a prominent leader of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and former Member of Parliament, passed away at his Coimbatore residence on Tuesday after a brief illness. He was 81.
Mohan, a respected figure within the DMK, served as the Member of Parliament for Coimbatore in 1980 and later represented the Singanallur Legislative Assembly Constituency in 1989. He was also a recipient of the Anna Award in 2022 and was imprisoned for a year under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act during the Emergency.
Several high-profile figures paid their respects, including Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and Minister for Prohibition and Electricity V. Senthil Balaji. Former Ministers Pongalur N. Palanisamy and M. Kannappan, along with DMK Urban Unit Secretary N. Karthik, were also present at the funeral. Mohan is survived by his wife, son, and daughter.
