Tue Dec 10 16:56:44 UTC 2024: ## Bengaluru Engineer’s Suicide Highlights Allegations of Wife’s Torture, Judicial Corruption
**Bengaluru, Karnataka** – The suicide of 34-year-old Atul Subhash, an AI engineer from Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, has sparked outrage and raised serious concerns about domestic violence and alleged corruption within the judicial system. Subhash, found dead by hanging in his Marahathalli home, left behind a 24-page suicide note detailing years of alleged harassment and extortion by his wife, Nikita Singhania, and her family.
Subhash’s marriage to Singhania in 2019 initially appeared happy, but soon deteriorated. Singhania returned to Jaunpur, after which she and her family filed a dowry harassment and domestic violence case against him. Over the next five years, Subhash alleges in a separate video testament, that his wife and in-laws systematically extorted money from him, falsely implicated him and his family in various criminal cases, and even demanded ₹3 crore in alimony. He further accused them of falsely accusing him of attempted murder, unnatural sex, domestic violence and dowry demands.
The legal battle, he detailed, involved over 120 court appearances in Jaunpur, often forcing him to travel from Bengaluru. Subhash claimed that he was denied even the right to see his child and requested that the child be given to his own family for better upbringing. He further alleged that a judge in the Jaunpur Family Court, Rita Kaushik, demanded a ₹5 lakh bribe to expedite the case, and when refused, issued an order for ₹40,000 monthly child support. He also claimed that the judge laughed off his accusations against his wife.
Subhash’s accusations extend to his in-laws’ allegedly filing a false dowry death case after his father-in-law’s heart attack. In his final video, Subhash pleaded for justice, stating that his remains should not be cremated until his tormentors are punished. He also sent a WhatsApp message to an NGO working against domestic violence, informing them of his intentions before taking his own life. The T-shirt he wore at the time of his death had the words “Justice Is Due” written on it. The case highlights the devastating impact of domestic abuse and the urgent need for reform in the judicial system to prevent similar tragedies.
