Tue Dec 10 14:56:13 UTC 2024: ## Sabarimala Sees Surge in Fever Cases Among Pilgrims

**Pathanamthitta, Kerala, December 10, 2024** – A sharp increase in fever cases among pilgrims visiting the Sabarimala Ayyappan Temple has prompted health officials to issue warnings and advice. Over 67,000 pilgrims sought medical attention at health facilities in Sannidhanam and Pampa, with more than half reporting fever, cold, and cough. The surge is attributed to the volatile weather conditions, including foggy mornings, high daytime temperatures, and recent torrential rain from Cyclone Fengal.

Sannidhanam Medical Officer Aneesh K. Soman explained that the drastic temperature changes combined with the physical exertion of the climb contribute to the health issues. Authorities have increased medical resources at the site, with 28,839 pilgrims receiving allopathic treatment, 25,060 opting for Ayurveda, and 1,107 choosing homeopathic care in Sannidhanam alone. An additional 12,591 received treatment in Pampa.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for rain in Pathanamthitta district on December 12th and 13th, predicting a change in weather starting Thursday. Pilgrims with pre-existing conditions are advised to bring their medical records and medications. Authorities also recommend light exercise before the pilgrimage and urge those experiencing fatigue, chest pain, or shortness of breath during the climb to seek immediate medical assistance.
