**Jaipur, Rajasthan –** Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a unique and intricately carved sandalwood sword as a gift during the opening of the Rising Rajasthan Summit on Monday. The presentation, by Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, included a traditional Rajasthani turban as well.
The sword, a two-year labour of love by renowned craftsman Vinod Jangid of Churu, is 40 inches long and features seven meticulously carved windows depicting key moments in the life of Maharana Pratap, a legendary Rajput warrior. Each window tells a story: from Maharana Pratap’s indomitable spirit to his loyal horse Chetak, the support of Bhamashah, battles fought, and the hardships endured. The final window showcases the epic Battle of Haldighati.
Jangid, a third-generation artist and recipient of numerous awards including the President’s Shilp Guru Award, used Mysore sandalwood for the creation. His family is known nationally and internationally for its exceptional sandalwood carvings. His brother, Omprakash Jangid, told NDTV that materials for the artwork are sourced both domestically and internationally.
The Prime Minister expressed his admiration for the artwork and the skill involved in honouring Maharana Pratap’s legacy. The sword, a testament to Rajasthan’s rich artistic heritage, is a striking piece, measuring 2.5 to 4.5 inches in width and featuring six additional blocks on the front.
