Tue Dec 10 00:10:00 UTC 2024: ## Mumbai Shivers Through Coldest December Day in Nine Years

**Mumbai, December 10, 2024** – Mumbai experienced its coldest December day in nine years on Monday, with the minimum temperature plummeting to a chilly 13.7 degrees Celsius at the IMD’s Santacruz station. This is 5.6 degrees below the normal minimum temperature and marks a significant drop after a period of warmer weather. The last time Mumbai recorded such low temperatures was in 2015, when the mercury dipped to 11.4 degrees Celsius.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) attributes the sudden drop to a shift in wind patterns, with cold, dry northerly winds now prevailing over the city. IMD scientist T.S. Neeta explained that this trend is expected to continue for another two to three days, with minimum temperatures remaining below 20 degrees Celsius. Daytime temperatures, however, are predicted to remain relatively mild, ranging between 30 and 32 degrees Celsius. After this period, temperatures are expected to rise as the wind shifts to an easterly direction. Ms. Neeta emphasized that the current weather pattern lacks the full characteristics of a typical winter due to the presence of moisture.

While Monday’s temperature was the coldest December day in nine years, it is the second-lowest recorded in the past decade. In 2018, Mumbai experienced a minimum temperature of 14.4 degrees Celsius. The Colaba observatory reported a slightly higher minimum temperature of 19.2 degrees Celsius on Monday.
