**Mumbai, India –** A horrific BEST bus accident in Kurla, Mumbai, has resulted in seven deaths and 49 injuries, officials confirmed Tuesday morning. The incident occurred Monday night around 9:50 pm when an electric bus on Route 332, traveling from Kurla to Andheri, veered off the road near Anjuman-e-Islam School, mounting a footpath and colliding with several vehicles and pedestrians.

The driver, Sanjay More, has been arrested and an FIR registered. The death toll rose throughout Tuesday morning, with fatalities reported across several hospitals including Bhabha Hospital and Habib Hospital. The injured are being treated at various hospitals across the city.

In response to the tragedy, the Mumbai police closed Kurla Station Road to traffic. The BEST undertaking announced that several bus routes would be affected, with diversions implemented for routes 37, 320, 319, 325, 330, 365, 446, 311, 313, and 318. Route 310 will also take a detour.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced financial aid of Rs 5 lakh (approximately $6,000 USD) from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to the families of the deceased. The Mumbai Municipal Corporation and BEST have been instructed to cover the medical expenses of the injured. The Chief Minister expressed his condolences and wished for a speedy recovery for those injured. The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
