**Belagavi, Karnataka –** Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah launched a year-long celebration, “Gandhi Bharata,” commemorating the centenary of the 1924 Belgaum Congress session presided over by Mahatma Gandhi. The event, which took place on December 9th, 2024, at Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi, marked the first day of the state’s Winter Legislative Session.
The Chief Minister unveiled a logo for the celebrations and a massive 200 sq ft oil painting depicting the Anubhava Mantapa, a 12th-century spiritual and political discussion center in Basava Kalyan. The painting showcases prominent figures of the era, including Saint Allama Prabhu and Basaveshwara. The artists responsible for the painting were also felicitated by CM Siddaramaiah.
The “Gandhi Bharata” committee, chaired by CM Siddaramaiah, will organize various programs throughout the year. Plans are also underway to release a commemorative stamp. The event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Speaker U.T. Khader, and other ministers.
