**New Delhi, [Date of Publication]** – Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das concluded his six-year term on Tuesday, praising the strong fiscal-monetary coordination achieved during his tenure. In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), Das expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the opportunity to lead the RBI, highlighting the Prime Minister’s guidance and influence.
Das also lauded Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for her consistent support, emphasizing the unprecedented level of collaboration between the fiscal and monetary authorities in navigating numerous economic challenges over the past six years. He extended his thanks to various stakeholders, including financial sector representatives, economists, industry bodies, and the RBI staff.
Das’s tenure saw the RBI deliver record dividends to the government, culminating in a record Rs 2.11 lakh crore dividend earlier this year. His leadership successfully addressed concerns surrounding RBI autonomy that had surfaced during previous governorships. He also steered the RBI through the complexities of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Before his appointment as RBI Governor in December 2018, Das served as the Economic Affairs Secretary and Revenue Secretary, playing a crucial role in the implementation of demonetization and the Goods and Services Tax (GST). A 1980 batch IAS officer, he also served on the 15th Finance Commission and as India’s G20 Sherpa.
