Mon Dec 09 19:13:58 UTC 2024: ## Delhi High Court Stays Removal of AAP Legal Cell President from Bar Council Post

**New Delhi, December 10, 2024** – The Delhi High Court on Monday issued a stay order preventing the Bar Council of India (BCI) from removing Sanjeev Nasiar, president of the Aam Aadmi Party’s legal cell, as vice-chairman of the Bar Council of Delhi (BCD). The stay order remains in effect pending an inquiry into the authenticity of Mr. Nasiar’s law degree.

The BCI, in a December 7th resolution, had removed Mr. Nasiar based on a sub-committee report questioning the authenticity of his LLB degree from Devi Ahilya Bai Vishwavidyalaya, Indore. The BCI’s subcommittee claimed to have conducted a thorough investigation, including a physical visit to the university, and subsequently recommended a CBI investigation into the matter.

Mr. Nasiar challenged the BCI’s decision in court. His lawyer argued that the BCI lacks the authority to interfere with matters under the BCD’s jurisdiction and that the university had already confirmed the authenticity of his degree. The BCI countered, asserting that the university’s confirmation wasn’t definitive proof and that universities could potentially be involved in issuing fraudulent degrees.

The High Court adjourned the case until January 21, 2025, for further hearing.
