Tue Dec 10 13:10:00 UTC 2024: ## Rutherford’s Century Leads West Indies to ODI Victory Over Bangladesh
**BASSETERRE, St. Kitts –** West Indies batsman Sherfane Rutherford smashed his maiden One-Day International (ODI) century, a stunning 113 off 80 balls, to lead his team to a five-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the opening ODI at Warner Park on Sunday.
Rutherford’s innings, which included eight sixes and seven fours, was crucial in chasing down Bangladesh’s 294 for six. He overcame a shaky start, including two helmet blows from Taskin Ahmed’s hostile bowling, to anchor a crucial 99-run partnership with captain Shai Hope (86). This century marks Rutherford’s fifth consecutive score of over 50 in ODIs, a feat achieved by only three other West Indians previously.
In just 10 ODIs, Rutherford boasts an impressive average of 73.83, accumulating 443 runs. He attributed his success to maintaining focus after the early setbacks, stating that the helmet blows actually helped him concentrate. He praised the team’s bowling effort for restricting Bangladesh, despite the favorable batting conditions. The West Indies reached their target of 295 with five wickets in hand. Rutherford was named Player of the Match for his match-winning performance.
