Tue Dec 10 14:39:59 UTC 2024: ## Puducherry Airport Expansion to Begin with Obstacle Survey
**Puducherry, December 10, 2024** – The expansion of Puducherry Airport is moving forward with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) announcing plans to conduct an Obstacle Limitation Surface (OLS) survey. This survey, based on a new runway orientation master plan, will identify potential obstacles affecting the proposed 2,300-meter runway, a significant increase from the existing 1,502 meters.
The AAI, after deeming previous proposals to extend the existing runway unfeasible, has collaborated with the Puducherry government on a new runway orientation, requiring approximately 402 acres of land, much of which is located in Tamil Nadu. The Puducherry administration has already contacted Tamil Nadu to facilitate land acquisition.
Following the OLS survey, the AAI will prepare a Detailed Project Report and a Land Plan Survey, which will then be submitted to the Puducherry government for land acquisition. Airport Director Rajasekhar Reddy confirmed that Indigo Airlines is set to launch its services from the airport on December 20th, with initial bookings indicating strong passenger interest. The first flight from Bengaluru is expected to arrive at 12:20 PM, with connecting flights to major cities like Mumbai and Delhi planned. The expansion project signifies a major boost to connectivity for Puducherry.
