Tue Dec 10 14:51:34 UTC 2024: ## Mumbai Bus Accident Kills Six, Injures 43 on First Day of Victim’s New Job

**Mumbai, India** – A horrific road accident in Kurla, Mumbai, claimed the lives of six people and injured 43 more on Monday night. Among the victims was 20-year-old Afreen Shah, who was tragically killed on her first day of a new job.

A BEST bus ran over a group of pedestrians on SG Barve Road in Kurla (West). Afreen’s father, Abdul Salim Shah, spoke of his last conversation with his daughter, who had called him at 9:09 PM to say she was struggling to find an auto-rickshaw to take her home from Kurla railway station. He advised her to walk towards the highway to find one. At 9:54 PM, he received a call from the hospital informing him of her death.

Mr. Shah lamented the dangerous conditions on the road, stating that overcrowding from illegal parking, street vendors, metro construction, and other activities makes it impossible for pedestrians to safely navigate the area. He urged the government to take decisive action to address these long-standing issues.

Police have filed a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against the bus driver under sections 105, 110, 118(1), and 118(2) of the Indian Penal Code. The driver has undergone a medical examination, including a blood alcohol test, which reportedly came back negative. Investigations are ongoing.
