Mon Dec 09 11:48:30 UTC 2024: ## Australia Levels Border-Gavaskar Series, Shakes Up World Test Championship Standings

**Adelaide, Australia:** Australia has defeated India by 10 wickets in the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, leveling the five-match series at 1-1. This victory has significantly impacted the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 standings.

Prior to the Adelaide Test, India held the top spot in the WTC points table. However, the loss has dropped them to third place, while Australia has ascended to the number one position.

The outcome of the ongoing second Test between Sri Lanka and South Africa will further influence the WTC rankings. Sri Lanka, chasing 348 runs, were 205/5 at the end of day four. A Sri Lankan victory would push them to third place (54.54%), moving India to second (57.29%), with Australia remaining at the top (60.71%). Conversely, a South African win would propel them to the top (63.33%), displacing Australia to second, while India would remain in third. A South African win would have no effect on India’s position.

India had previously won the first Test in Perth by a resounding 295 runs, claiming the top spot in the WTC rankings. The third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy commences in Brisbane on December 14.
