Sun Dec 08 18:27:54 UTC 2024: ## India Reclaims Top Spot in World Test Championship Standings

**Adelaide, Australia (Dec 4, 2024)** – India has wrestled back the top spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 standings after a resounding victory in the first Test against Australia in Perth. The recent 1-1 draw between the West Indies and Bangladesh had little impact on India’s position, despite fan speculation.

While Bangladesh finished their WTC campaign in eighth place, surpassing the West Indies, neither team’s performance affected India’s lead. India currently sits atop the table with nine wins and five losses from 15 matches. They are closely followed by South Africa (five wins, three losses in nine matches) and Australia (eight wins, four losses in 13 matches).

India’s rise to the top follows a recent 0-3 series loss to New Zealand, which had temporarily dropped them to second place. However, the Perth win has secured their position at the summit.

To automatically qualify for the WTC final, India needs a 4-0 or 5-0 series win against Australia. Failure to achieve this will necessitate a different qualification pathway. The teams will meet again in the second Test at the Adelaide Oval, starting December 6th, with India aiming for a second consecutive victory.
