Sun Dec 08 21:37:17 UTC 2024: ## Hawaiian Photographer’s Disappearance Takes a Twist: Family Disputes “Voluntary Missing” Status

**Los Angeles/Mexico –** The disappearance of Hawaiian photographer Hannah Kobayashi, 30, has taken a dramatic turn, with conflicting accounts from authorities and her family. Kobayashi was reported missing on November 8 after missing a connecting flight from Los Angeles to New York. While the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has declared her a “voluntary missing person” after confirming she crossed into Mexico, her family vehemently disputes this, suggesting foul play and potentially involvement in an immigration marriage scam.

Kobayashi was last seen in Los Angeles on November 10. Surveillance footage shows her boarding a train with an unidentified man on November 11. The man, who has been interviewed by police, claims they met at Union Station, spent the evening together, and that Kobayashi subsequently bought a bus ticket to Tijuana, Mexico. He has not been implicated in any crime. Tragically, Kobayashi’s father, Ryan Kobayashi, died by suicide during the search for his daughter.

Adding to the mystery, Kobayashi’s family has discovered documents suggesting her possible involvement in a marriage fraud scheme to obtain a green card. Her sister, Sydni, described her actions as completely out of character, noting strange text messages hinting at a “spiritual awakening” before her disappearance. Kobayashi also left her cell phone behind in Los Angeles.

Despite the LAPD’s statement, the Kobayashi family is unconvinced and plans to launch their own search in Mexico. The case remains open, with unanswered questions surrounding Kobayashi’s sudden departure and the circumstances surrounding her crossing the border.
