**CHERPULASSERY, INDIA (December 9, 2024)** – A 700-foot-long mural depicting peace in 250 languages has captivated an American art researcher, highlighting the growing international acclaim for this unique public art project. Natalie Callahan, a Fulbright-Nehru research scholar from Chatham University, Pittsburgh, recently visited the “Wall of Peace” in Cherpulassery, Kerala, India. Created by Suresh K. Nair, a professor from Banaras Hindu University, the mural has earned the Eurasia World Record for the largest public art project.

Callahan praised the mural’s “beautiful message” and the artistic techniques employed. The artwork, crafted from cement and sand in warm golden hues, depicts the struggle for freedom and culminates in an image of the sun, symbolizing the dawn of peace and enlightenment. It also incorporates local history, including tributes to Cherpulassery’s freedom fighters and cultural heritage, drawing inspiration from the memoir “Khilafat Smaranakal.”

The project, undertaken under the aegis of the School Project Aiming Centre of Excellence (SPACE), is located on the compound wall of Government Vocational Higher Secondary School, Cherpulassery. Municipal Chairperson P. Ramachandran stated that the Wall of Peace is attracting tourists worldwide due to its size and unique nature. Professor Nair, who also created a 200-foot mural at the India-Pakistan Wagah border, described the Cherpulassery project as a way to “give back to his alma mater” and promote freedom and peace globally. The mural’s depiction of peace in numerous languages has particularly resonated with international visitors.
