**TIRUCHIRAPPALLI, December 9, 2024** – Residents near Varaiyaru Odai, a scenic stream at the foot of Pachamalai hills, are calling for infrastructure improvements to enhance safety and accessibility at the increasingly popular weekend picnic spot.
Located 2 kilometers from Ammampalayam village, the stream has attracted scores of visitors since recent rains. However, the lack of basic amenities, including a safe and accessible road, has prompted concerns. The current 2-km mud road is described as unsafe and slippery, particularly during rainy weather, making it difficult for two-wheelers. Residents are requesting the road be paved and thorny bushes along the path cleared. They also want the stream desilted.
Local resident M. Karthik highlighted the need for these improvements, stating that while the spot is beautiful, the lack of infrastructure is hindering its enjoyment.
The Forest Department has acknowledged the concerns and stated that they will investigate the matter.
