Sun Dec 08 22:50:00 UTC 2024: ## Visakhapatnam Hosts Acclaimed Photo Exhibition Highlighting India’s Refugee Crisis
**VISAKHAPATNAM, INDIA (December 9, 2024)** – A powerful photo exhibition, “7 Decades: A Silent Refugee Crisis,” concluded a two-day run in Visakhapatnam on Sunday. The exhibition, which previously garnered international acclaim in Sydney, Australia, is part of a nationwide tour showcasing the lives of India’s refugee communities.
Curated by human rights advocate and photographer Kiran Chukkapalli, the exhibit features intimate and poignant images documenting the struggles and resilience of individuals displaced by conflict and socio-political upheaval. The photographs offer a rare glimpse into the challenges and triumphs faced by these communities over seven decades.
Adding to the exhibition’s impact was a companion display titled “Stateless,” showcasing clothing stitched by refugee women. Designed by Chukkapalli, the “Stateless” brand aims to provide economic empowerment to these women, allowing them to support their families while highlighting their skills.
The exhibition attracted prominent attendees, including Visakhapatnam MLAs, the Police Commissioner, and several business tycoons and philanthropists. Speakers emphasized the importance of addressing the refugee crisis and supporting marginalized communities.
Chukkapalli shared his experiences documenting the lives of refugees, emphasizing the profound impact it had on his understanding of human resilience and rights. He expressed hope that the exhibition would inspire greater empathy and advocacy.
The exhibition will continue its tour across India, concluding in Delhi in mid-March 2025. Chukkapalli described the exhibition not merely as an art display, but as a call to action, urging viewers to engage with the largely untold stories of India’s refugee population and support those affected by displacement.
