**Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala –** The Kerala High Court has issued a strict memorandum prohibiting staff from engaging in online gaming and excessive social media use during working hours and lunch breaks. The memo, dated December 2nd, 2024, cites a disruption of daily office work due to employees playing online games and consuming social media content.
While social media use, watching movies, and online trading are permitted during lunch breaks unless for official purposes, online gaming is strictly forbidden at all times. The memo, signed by Registrar General Gopakumar G, warns that violations will be dealt with seriously, and controlling officers are tasked with enforcing the ban. Senior officers with company-provided phones and chauffeurs are exempted. The court’s action highlights growing concerns about productivity and appropriate workplace conduct in the digital age.
