Mon Dec 09 10:48:32 UTC 2024: ## AAP Announces Candidates for Upcoming Delhi Assembly Elections

**New Delhi, December 9, 2024:** The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced its second list of candidates for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, revealing a significant shift in strategy. Former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, currently out on bail after facing corruption charges, will contest from the Jangpura constituency, abandoning his previous seat of Patparganj. Avadh Ojha will be the AAP candidate for Patparganj.

This announcement comes as the party continues to release its candidate list for the 70-member assembly. With this second list of 20 candidates, a total of 39 AAP candidates have been nominated so far. The party’s decision to move Sisodia to Jangpura is a strategic one, given the constituency’s history and the high-profile nature of the candidate. Jangpura was previously held by BJP’s Maninder Singh Dhir, who won in 2013 before joining BJP. AAP had fielded Praveen Kumar in 2015 and 2020.

The move also comes amidst a backdrop of high political drama. Both Sisodia and AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal were arrested on corruption charges earlier this year, leading to Kejriwal’s resignation as Chief Minister and the appointment of Atishi as his successor. Both have since been released on bail and intend to return to government after the elections. The upcoming elections are expected to be a tight contest between AAP and BJP, making Sisodia’s candidacy a key factor. Ojha joined AAP in November.
